What is it?

Festival Belgian Dubbel is a high-quality premium 3kg beer kit. Everything you need to brew a superb Belgian Dubbel is included in the box (except water).  Festival Belgian Dubbel has an aroma that is a wonderful mixture of fruitcake, plums, and cloves. The taste provides hints of rich chocolate fruitcake and dark spicy Autumn fruits. Goldings Hops match a low level of bitterness and aroma to the rich malts. This Festival beer kit provides a chocolate finish with a fluffy tan head. This beer makes an excellent Winter or Christmas Ale.

A 25g sachet of Goldings hop pellets is included so that a background hop aroma can be achieved. A nylon straining bag is also included, which fit over the end of your syphon sediment trap. This will prevent any hop residue (referred to as trub) from transferring to bottles or barrels.  A 110g sachet of priming sugar is provided to ensure bottles or barrels are properly conditioned.

Hop bitterness of the Belgian Dubbel is 2 (on a scale of 1-5). The kit produces a target alcohol content of 7.2% ABV (approx)

The Festival Belgian Dubbel kit contains high-quality ingredients and easy to follow step-by-step instructions. Each kit makes 32 pints of premium ale

Each Festival kit contains only the finest quality ingredients and easy to follow step-by-step instructions, making Festival Premium Ale Kits the UK's most comprehensive and complete premium liquid malt extract beer kit ever produced!

Following on from the successful range of Festival Premium Ale Kits that paid homage to great UK Beers, Festival introduced the Festival World Beer range to showcase a varied selection of beer styles from around the world. With careful research, help and knowledge from professional brewers, Festival World Beer Kits enable you to recreate examples of a variety of World Beers, all within the comfort of your own home.

Festival World Beers kits use only the very highest quality liquid malt extracts and genuine brewer’s yeast and priming sugar. The hop pellets are simply added halfway through fermentation infusing flavour and aroma into the finished beer. The precisely measured addition of priming sugar ensures the correct level of carbonation is achieved for each particular style of beer.

What is a Belgian Dubbel?

The term Dubbel (also known as double) is a Belgian Trappist beer naming convention. The origin of the Dubbel was a strong version of a brown beer brewed in Westmalle Abbey in 1856, which is known to have been on sale to the public by June 1861. Affligem, Chimay, and Grimbergen are Belgian abbey breweries that produce popular Dubbels. Dubbels are fairly strong (6%-8% alcohol by volume), with understated bitterness, fairly heavy body, and a pronounced fruitiness and cereal character. They are characteristically known for being dark brown in colour with a strong flavour of dark fruit including raisins, prunes, and dates.

Food Pairing

In general terms, a light ale goes best with chicken or fish dishes and darker beers for richer dining, red meat or spicy dishes and game. Belgian Dubbel works well with Steaks or Roast Beef, Tartiflette, Raclette, or creamy desserts such as Cheesecake or Christmas Plum Pudding.

Tips

We strongly recommend using Pure Brew with this kit in order to achieve a commercial quality. Pure Brew is a professional beer enhancer. It feeds the yeast with essential nutrients, which supercharge the fermentation and support yeast development (even in limited oxygen conditions). Pure Brew also treats brewing water to eliminate problems caused by Chlorine and Chloramine (which can create a medicinal or as it is sometimes referred to, a "homebrew" taste) The condition of brewing water is critical to achieving optimum results but this important area is often overlooked. By using Pure Brew, you can effectively and easily condition brewing water, and maximise effective fermentation.

The addition of beer finings will improve the final quality of your beer. Finings such as Harris Beer Brite will help your beer to clear quickly and the sediment will be more likely to stay at the bottom of bottles or barrels. If you are using Corny Kegs then it is important to clear the beer as much as possible before kegging. Beer Finings will promote a faster and more efficient fall out of sediment and haze particles prior to kegging. Harris Starbrite is a highly effective vegan-friendly beer fining, which is rapidly becoming a firm favourite with home brewers.

Fantastic brew, best left a little longer
Fantastic homebrew. Best to leave it a bit longer in the bottles to get the best out of it but it is well worth the wait.
