St Peters Honey Porter Kit

St Peters Honey PorterThis is a traditional English Porter, auburn red in colour and finished with a sweet honey taste and aroma. Flavours of honey, chocolate and with slight hints of vanilla make this a unique porter. This 3kg kit makes 40 pints of porter with a sweet honey taste and aroma at around 4.5% ABV.

This kit is the fifth of the hugely popular St Peters Brewery range and is based on the bronze award winning recipe of the St Peters Brewery Honey Porter, complimenting the Golden Ale, Cream Stout, India Pale Ale and Ruby Red Ale. This kit has been approved by the head brewer at the Suffolk based brewery. St Peters Brewery is based in St Peter, South Elmham, near Bungay in Suffolk. The brewery was built in 1996 and is housed in an attractive range of agricultural buildings adjacent to St Peter’s Hall.

DO YOU NEED ANY OTHER INGREDIENTS?

This is an all malt beer kit, and you do not need any additional sugar or beer kit enhancer to make the kit. However, you will need some sugar or carbonation drops to prime the bottles or keg for a secondary fermentation.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU NEED?

Basic beer making equipment (5g fermenter, airlock, syphon tube with sediment trap, hydrometer, Suresan sanitiser, bottles or barrel). These are available under the starter kit section on this website.

TIPS

Harris Pure Brew - 5 DoseWe strongly recommend using Pure Brew with this kit in order to achieve a commercial quality. Pure Brew is a professional beer enhancer. It feeds the yeast with essential nutrients, which supercharge the fermentation and support yeast development (even in limited oxygen conditions). Additionally, Pure Brew treats brewing water, eliminating problems caused by Chlorine and Chloramine, which can create a medicinal or, as it is sometimes referred to, a “homebrew” taste. Achieving optimum results in brewing critically depends on the condition of brewing water, but this important area is often overlooked. By using Pure Brew, you can effectively and easily condition brewing water, and maximise effective fermentation.

The addition of beer finings will improve the final quality of your beer. Finings such as Harris Beer Brite will help your beer to clear quickly and the sediment will be more likely to stay at the bottom of bottles or barrels. If you are using Corny Kegs then it is important to clear the beer as much as possible before kegging. Beer Finings will promote a faster and more efficient fall out of sediment and haze particles prior to kegging. Harris Starbrite is a highly effective vegan-friendly beer fining, which is rapidly becoming a firm favourite with home brewers.

First brewed this about 4 years ago. Bit reluctant at the time having brewed ports before with poor results. But was way impressed. Have brewed this on a regular basis. Would definitely recommend

This is a decent porter and you absolutely get the honey notes from it. I tend to drink it on the colder side as find it very refreshing. The only issue I had was that I couldn’t get anywhere near the alcohol level it should have been so it is a pretty weak brew but no loss of flavour.
