The Dark Rock Build A Beer kit is crafted for homebrewers who demand exceptional quality and flavour. Each kit includes 3 kg of commercial grade malt extract, carefully selected hop oils and pellets, premium beer yeast and malt grains and optional boosters. With the addition of Pure Brew, a professional beer enhancer that supports yeast and conditions brewing water, you can achieve optimum fermentation, eliminating off flavours caused by chlorine or chloramine, and ensuring a clean, balanced taste.

How does Build A Beer work?

A simple process of choosing a starting base malt, select your desired bitterness level, select the steeping grains for extra colour and flavour, add aroma hops, add sugars if needed and select a yeast for your kit. We will then create the kit that you have chosen. When creating the beer, just add a reference or a name so that you will know which kit is is when you receive it – especially if you order more than 1 kit.

What is the difference between Base Malts?

Light – 3Kg premium Light Malt Extract. This is the base for all light and amber beers – such as Lager, IPA, Blonde Ales, Bitter, Amber Ales etc.
Dark – 3Kg Premium Dark Malt Extract. This is used as the base for all dark beers like Stout, Porter and dark Mild.

What is the difference between the Hop Bitterness Levels?

Smooth – A gentle bitterness that lets the malt flavours shine through. Easy-drinking with a smooth, balanced finish.
Balanced – A classic level of bitterness that complements the malt without overpowering it. Ideal for most beer styles.
Bold – A more pronounced hop bitterness with a crisp, refreshing finish. Perfect for hop-forward beers and IPA lovers.

What is the difference between the Grain T-Bags?

Light & Crisp – Clean, light malt with a crisp finish. Best beer styles: Lager, Pilsner, Kölsch, Blonde Ale
Smooth & Creamy – Silky texture and fuller body. Best beer styles: NEIPA, Oatmeal Stout, Hazy Pale
Golden & Sweet – Gentle sweetness with honey and biscuit notes. Best beer styles: Golden Ale, Blonde Ale, Pale Ale, Belgian Blonde

Tropical – Notes of mango, passion fruit and tropical fruit. Best beer styles: NEIPA, Hazy IPA, Juicy Pale Ale, American IPA
Fruity – Notes of peach, apricot and soft tropical fruit. Best beer styles: Modern British IPA, Golden Ale, Pale Ale
Pacific Burst – Notes of white grape, gooseberry and citrus. Best beer styles: NZ Pilsner, NZ IPA, Hazy IPA, Pale Ale

What is the difference between the Sugars?

None – No additional sugar is added. This will produce a beer of approximately 4.6% abv with full body and flavour.
Smooth & Creamy – Keeps the abv at 4.6%. Adds sweetness, a creamy body and a silky finish. Perfect for milk stouts and dessert beers.
Lager Malt Boost –  This will produce a beer of approximately 5.5% abv. Ideal for stronger lagers, pilsners and blonde ales.
Pale Malt Boost – This will produce a beer of approximately 5.5% abv. Ideal for stronger pale ales, IPAs, Golden Ales and bitters.
Amber Malt Boost – This will produce a beer of approximately 5.5% abv. Ideal for stronger Amber ales, bitters and Mild.
Dark Malt Boost –  This will produce a beer of approximately 5.5% abv. Ideal for stronger Stouts and dark ales.
Strength Boost – Takes the beer up to 7.2% abv with a lighter finish.
Belgian Golden – This will produce a beer of approximately 5.5% abv. Ideal for Belgian Blonde, Golden and Tripel.
Belgian Dark – This will produce a beer of approximately 5.5% abv. Ideal for Dubbel and Belgian Dark Strong.

What is the difference between the yeasts?

British Ale Yeast – Produces a smooth, well-balanced beer with gentle fruity notes and a rich malt character. Best beer styles: Best Bitter, ESB, Mild, Brown Ale, Porter, Stout, English IPA
West Coast Yeast – Ferments cleanly to let the malt and hops shine, creating a crisp finish. Best beer styles: American Pale Ale, West Coast IPA, American Amber, Blonde Ale, Double IPA
New England Yeast – Enhances fruity hop aromas while leaving a soft, hazy mouthfeel. Best beer styles: NEIPA, Hazy Pale Ale, Juicy IPA, Wheat Beer
