Dark Rock Tribute to Shipyard IPA combines the finest malted barley with a blend of audacious American hops. This thirst-quenching and powerful American IPA is dry, refreshing, and explodes with a grapefruit/ citrus flavour. This smooth American-style IPA has a big hop flavour balanced with a malt base, making it perfect for session drinking. Dark Rock Tribute to Shipyard IPA makes 40 pints of 4.5% ABV ale.

The Commercial Brewery

Shipyard Brewing Company is a family-owned brewery based in Portland Maine. Shipyard is ranked 25th largest craft beer company in the U.S. Master Brewer, Peter Austin, learned his skills at Ringwood Brewery in Hampshire, before moving to the United States and setting up Federal Jacks brewpub and restaurant in the coastal village of Kennebunkport Harbor.

The business expanded and Shipyard Brewing Company was set up in Portland in 1994. Shipyard Brewing Co. and Ringwood Brewery have been collaborating on beers since then. Shipyard continues to brew Ringwood Old Thumper for the American market, along with an American-specific variant, Double Thumper. Since Ringwood joined the Marston’s Beer Co family in 2007, the relationship developed further with Shipyard, with the launch of the first permanently available Shipyard American Pale Ale in May 2013.

We carefully selected and matched quality hops, malts, and yeast to provide you with the closest possible result. Each brewery will have unique factors such as water source and yeast type; therefore, Tribute beers are not intended to be clones. We recommend you have fun by comparing the commercial beer against your own to see how close you can get.

Brewers Tips

This kit includes Pure Brew, a professional enhancer that boosts fermentation and treats brewing water. It feeds yeast with vital nutrients, while removing Chlorine and Chloramine, which can cause off-flavours. Since water quality is key to great beer, we strongly recommend using Pure Brew in every brew for consistently better results.

You’ll also get Harris Starbrite finings, a vegan-friendly clarifier that helps your beer clear quickly and encourages sediment to settle. This is especially useful if you’re kegging, as it reduces the risk of haze and sediment transfer.

To make brewing even easier, we’ve included a muslin grain bag and hop t-bag. For a more advanced setup, consider adding a metal hop spider. It offers better hop circulation during the boil, is easy to clean, and can be reused again and again.
