Tribute Series

These kits allow you to produce beers that mirror the classic commercial favourites. Quality hops, malts, and yeast have been carefully selected and matched to give you the closest possible result. They are not designed to be clones since factors such as water source and yeast type will be individual to each brewery. We recommend you have fun comparing the commercial beer against your own to see how close you can get.

The Commercial Brewery

Shipyard Brewing Company is a family-owned brewery based in Portland Maine. Shipyard is ranked 25th largest craft beer company in the U.S. Master Brewer, Peter Austin, learned his skills at Ringwood Brewery in Hampshire, before moving to the United States and setting up Federal Jacks brewpub and restaurant in the coastal village of Kennebunkport Harbor.

The business expanded and Shipyard Brewing Company was set up in Portland in 1994. Shipyard Brewing Co. and Ringwood Brewery have been collaborating on beers since then. Shipyard continues to brew Ringwood Old Thumper for the American market, along with an American-specific variant, Double Thumper. Since Ringwood joined the Marston’s Beer Co family in 2007, the relationship developed further with Shipyard, with the launch of the first permanently available Shipyard American Pale Ale in May 2013.

Tips

A sachet of Pure Brew is included with this kit to achieve commercial quality. Pure Brew is a professional beer enhancer. It feeds the yeast with essential nutrients, which supercharge the fermentation and support yeast development (even in limited oxygen conditions). Pure Brew also treats brewing water to eliminate problems caused by Chlorine and Chloramine (which can create a medicinal or as it is sometimes referred to, a “homebrew” taste) The condition of brewing water is critical to achieving optimum results but this important area is often overlooked. By using Pure Brew, you can effectively and easily condition brewing water, and maximize effective fermentation. We strongly recommend using Pure Brew with all of your beers to improve their quality.

The addition of beer finings will improve the final quality of your beers. This kit includes Starbrite finings. They will help your beer to clear quickly and the sediment will be more likely to stay at the bottom of bottles or barrels. If you are using Corny Kegs then it is important to clear the beer as much as possible before kegging. Beer Finings will promote a faster and more efficient fall out of sediment and haze particles before kegging. Harris Starbrite is a highly effective vegan-friendly beer fining, which is rapidly becoming a firm favourite with craft brewers. It is suitable for all beers.

This kit includes a muslin bag. You could consider investing in a metal hop spider to upgrade your equipment. The hop spider would sit inside your boiling pan and allow you to drop hops into the pan in a controlled way. Hop Spiders allow hops to boil with more free-flow space around them. They are easily cleaned and can be reused repeatedly.

Fantastic results. This was my first part grain brew. It was really involving and the results are leagues ahead of ‘just add water’ brews.

What a great beer this kit makes !! Apricot/ peaches on nose followed by classic American pale Ale Citrus flavour and malty back flavours. I drink Shipyard and this I far better and really enjoyed making this fantastic beer.

As a lover of Shipyard ale and a new starter to home brewing i thought i would give this a try. This was my 1st time with a part grain and although the process takes longer in the kitchen it was worth it

The taste of these is more or less perfect.

My only problem is i started tasting it 2 weeks after bottling it and i cant stop
