To extract the vanilla beans from the pod, you will need a sharp knife and a cutting board. Here are the steps to follow

  1. Lay the vanilla pod flat on the cutting board
  2. Hold one end of the pod with one hand and use the other hand to make a lengthwise cut down the centre of the pod
  3. Open the pod and use the back of the knife to scrape out the tiny black seeds from the inside of the pod
  4. Collect the seeds in a small bowl or container
