5 Litre Plastic Demijohn with Large Cap, Airlock and LCD Thermometer

The container is complete with a drilled cap and rubber grommet so that an airlock can be fitted. No bungs required. Lightweight and durable. The grommet supplied may be different as each supplier uses a slightly different one. The smooth sides allow sediment to fall easily without getting trapped on the side walls. The large lid allows easy access to the contents. Comes completed with Airlock and LCD Thermometer.

What can you ferment in the Demijohn?

What volume does it hold?

This will hold 4.5 litres (1 gallon) of wine and allow headspace for any foaming of the yeast. A perfect fermenter for 1 gallon wines.

Can you use hot water to clean the demijohn?

You can use warm and hot water, but not too hot. Never use boiling water as this will melt the plastic. To sterilise we would recommend a no-rinse sanitiser like Suresan.

Can you store wine to mature?

As the top is drilled and comes with a grommet, it is difficult to store the liquid and remain airtight. You could always keep an airlock in the fermenter, and this will stop oxygen getting inside. However please bear in mind that the water in the airlock will evaporate over time. You will need to keep checking to ensure there is always water in the airlock.
