A Tribute to Guinness Original – Part Grain Kit

Guinness Original Stout has a dark toffee colour with a light head. The distinctive aromas of roasted barley malts, toasty chocolate and coffee come through from the first taste. The flavour is velvet chocolate and coffee with a delicious, slightly bitter aftertaste. There is a perfect balance of bitter and sweet flavours with malt and roast characters. The palate is smooth, creamy and balanced. This is what has made Guinness one of the best selling beers in the world. This kit produces 40 pints of delicious, creamy stout at 4.2% ABV.

Tribute Series

The Dark Rock Tribute series allows you to produce beers which mirror the classic commercial favourites. Carefully selected and matched quality hops, malts, and yeast to give you the closest possible result. We design tribute beers not to be clones, as factors such as water source and yeast type will be individual to each one. Have fun by comparing the commercial beer against your own to see how close you can get.

The Commercial Brewery:

Originally leased in 1759 to Arthur Guinness at 45 Irish Pounds per year for 9,000 years, the St James Gate area has been the home of Guinness ever since. It became the largest brewery in Ireland in 1838, and the largest in the world by 1886, with an annual output of 1.2 million barrels. The company merged with Grand Metropolitan in 1997 to form Diageo plc, capitalised in 2006 at approximately 40 billion euros. Although not officially fully taken over, the Guinness family still owns 51 per cent of the brewery. St. James’s Gate Brewery, Dublin brews the production of all Guinness sold in the UK and Ireland.

Tips

This kit includes a sachet of Pure Brew to achieve commercial quality. Pure Brew is a professional beer enhancer. It feeds the yeast with essential nutrients, which supercharge the fermentation and support yeast development (even in limited oxygen conditions). Pure Brew  treats brewing water to eliminate the ‘homebrew’ or medicinal taste that Chlorine and Chloramine can cause.

Brewers often overlook the critical condition of brewing water, which is essential to achieve optimum results. By using Pure Brew, you can effectively and easily condition brewing water, and maximise effective fermentation. We strongly recommend using Pure Brew with all of your beers to improve their quality.

You could consider investing in a metal hop spider to effectively manage hop additions into the boiling process. The hop spider would sit inside your boiler and allow you to drop hops into the boil in a controlled way. Hop Spiders allow hops to boil with more free flow space around them. You can easily clean them and reuse them over and over again. They also prevent hop sediment (known as trub) from clogging up pumping systems when using all in one brewing equipment.

Finings

The addition of beer finings will improve the final quality of your beers. This kit includes Starbrite finings. They will help your beer to clear quickly and the sediment will be more likely to stay at the bottom of bottles or barrels. If you are using Corny Kegs then it is important to clear the beer as much as possible before kegging. Beer Finings will promote a faster and more efficient fall out of sediment and haze particles prior to kegging (crash chilling your beer with a Glycol Chiller will also help to eliminate sediment). Harris Starbrite is a highly effective vegan-friendly beer fining, which is rapidly becoming a firm favourite with home brewers. It is suitable for all beers.

Certainly benefitted from being left to mature for 6 weeks.

Not heavy with a smooth chocolate/coffee taste.

Well worth brewing.

well worth leaving for at least 6 weeks in the pressure barrel for the full flavours to develop

Pleasant mouth feel and taste very close to the old Guinness

this is do similar to the guiness served in dublin , really easy to make and i put mine in a corny keg and the surplus into bottles to store ,, after couple 3 weeks into the kegerator and served through an i kegger tap with stout spout ,, ( thanks jessie ????) better than pub quality abd better than draught guiness in my opinion ( and all

of my drinking pals ) one note on brewing is that my water comes from an artisan well which has been tested and there is nothing in it apart from water ????,, maybe that’s the secret all i know is it’s a staple serving abd on the summer once chilled in the kegerator it’s fantastic , give it a try ,, out of stock at the moment … no suprise there then
