Do they clear a wine?

The 15cm Vinpapers work with the Vinbrite Filter Kit as a protective barrier during filtration. They fit between the filter pad and the locking ring, where they trap any loose fibres or particles released from the pad, preventing them from entering the wine. Vinpapers do not filter or clear the wine themselves—they simply ensure a clean, contamination-free flow during the filtration process.

Can the Vinbrite work without the paper?

If you carry out a pad rinse before filtration, you can eliminate the need for Vinpapers. Simply run around 2 litres of clean water through the filter pad during a full filtration cycle. This process flushes out any loose fibres or residual material from the pad. Once rinsed, you can filter your wine directly without using filter papers, while still achieving a clean result.

What is the history of the 15cm Papers?

Winemakers originally used 15cm filter papers with asbestos-based filter pads to achieve fast, highly effective wine clarification. These high-performance pads removed impurities quickly, producing brilliantly clear wines in minimal time. The filter papers played a crucial role by preventing any asbestos fibres from entering the wine during the filtration process. Manufacturers discontinued these asbestos filter pads in 1981 due to safety concerns.
